THE BOLD VOICES AND INSPIRING VISIONS OF TODAY’S REVOLUTIONARY ABOLITIONIST MOVEMENT

We have the power to change fairy tales and nursery rhymes so that these stories are more realistic. In Sometimes the Spoon Runs Away With Another Spoon you will find anecdotes of real kids’ lives and true-to-life fairy tale characters. Global capitalism is a precarious system. Relying on the steady flow of goods across the world, trans-national companies such as Wal-Mart and Amazon depend on the work of millions in docks, warehouses and logistics centres to keep their goods moving. 

This is the global supply chain, and, if the chain is broken, capitalism grinds to a halt. This book looks at case studies across the world to uncover a network of resistance by these workers who, despite their importance, often face vast exploitation and economic violence.

Introduction

Autonomous media are the vehicles of social movements. They are attempts to subvert the social order by re-claiming media and public spaces from the private domain. Autonomous media are defined by their openness—in terms of content and membership—and their objective of amplifying the voices of people and groups that normally do not have access to the media. They are intended to provide people and communities with information that is alternative to that within the corporate mass media, and audiences are encouraged to participate directly in the production of content.
